Key features offered through the IB programme at HHIE

  • In 2001, HHIE became one of the first authorized PYP schools in the world. The International Baccalaureate(IB) framework offers a standards -based curriculum with an international perspective.
  • The IB experience on Hilton Head Island begins with and Hilton Head Island Elementary School (HHIES) and continues through the Middle Years and the Diploma Programmes.
  • IB students develop the attributes of the Learner Profile. At HHIES, we place an emphasis on creating life-long learners who are internationally minded.
  • Each year, the school community is welcome to join in our many family offerings. These include a Fall Festival, Robotics, Science Fair and International Night.
  • Fifth Grade students participate in the exhibition. This is a culminating demonstration of learning and represents a significant event in a PYP school.
  • At HHIES, students learn through inquiry, which encourages active participation in their own learning. Students are prepared for future education and careers.
  • Teachers offer hands-on learning opportunities allowing students to experiment, research, question, dramatize, reflect and connect ideas.
  • HHIES offers a robust Arts, Gifted and Talented and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) program all under the PYP umbrella.
  • Student learning is organized around six transdisciplinary themes that include many subject areas. Students make conceptual connections between and among English Language Arts, Second Language Learning, Math, Science, Social Studies, Art, Music, Drama, Physical Education and Social and Emotional Learning.
  • The IB promotes the education of the whole child. The PYP challenges students to think for themselves, be agents of their own learning and take action as a result of the learning.
  • Students are given a voice, choice and ownership of learning as they explore local and global issues at HHIES.
