Sarah Owen, Principal
Dr. Sarah L. Owen is thrilled to be serving in her sixth year as the Principal of Hilton Head Island Elementary School and her 29th year in education. Ms. Owen has her Doctorate degree in Curriculum and Instruction, Education Specialist degree with a certification/endorsement in ESOL, Gifted and Talented, and elementary education. She also obtained her National Board Certification in 2005. Prior to being in her current position, she has worked as an Assistant Principal at HHIECC, HHISCA and HHIE as well as serving as the District ESOL, World Language and Gifted Coordinator. Dr. Owen also helped to implement the state’s first dual-language program at public schools (Spanish and Chinese) at two schools which is now in its 12th year.
Dr. Owen is committed to ensuring high expectations for all learners under the Primary Years Programme framework. She supports the school’s vision which includes:
