Hello My Name Is...

Helen Ashton

Ashton

I am a graduate of The University of the South (Sewanee) with a BA in Theater.  I spent several years working in professional theater as a scenic artist before deciding to combine my love of theater with my love of working with children.  After 2 years teaching English as a Second Language to kindergarten and primary school children in Taiwan, I moved here to Hilton Head Island to be closer to my family. I served for 13 years as the Studio teacher at First Presbyterian Day School, teaching art, music, drama and woodworking. My hobbies include singing, storytelling, woodworking, and puppetry.

This is myseventh year as the Studio Teacher at Hilton Head Island Elementary, where I teach Theater in an environment which encourages experimentation, makes connections to other subject areas, and supports the processes of learning. In the Studio students are able to develop many aspects of the IB PYP learner profile. They are InquirersCommunicators, and Risk Takers.  Students also Reflect on their learning in the various Studio Centers. Ask your child which Studio Center is their favorite!
